Time Flies...

I honestly don't know where the last month has gone!
We have been doing assessments and I did progress reports...but I really can't believe that it's almost March.  Crazy!

We have been working really hard to understand what it means to infer.  Understanding iinference is difficult for most kids and I was looking for a fun way to teach it.
Boy...did I luck out.  I found the "Inference Investigators" packet on TpT.  It was so fun, the kids really had a blast and most importantly it made learning about inferences easy.
My kiddos have a great grasp of inferring now.
You can get your own pack {HERE} from Babbling Abby.
Love, love, love it!
Here are some pics.
We ALWAYS start with an "I Can..." statement so the kids know what the objective is.

This tells them "some" information.  They are infering the rest!

I  glued these two papers inside manilla folders and laminated them.  These contatined their cules to begin making inferences.
I'll be able to use these in the years to come!

We made a class timeline to find out the missing parts of the story.

Very fun!  Click to follow her blog.  Thanks Abby!

Classroom Elf on the Shelf

Have you heard of Elf on the Shelf?
If you have a kid, you probably have!
He's everywhere, especially on Pinterest!

Well on Thursday when I got to work, the cutest little elf was perched upon our SMART Board!

He watches us and reports to Santa at night.
In the morning we find him in a new spot with a note about important things to remember.
Well, my kiddos were so excited about our Elf (we named him Joseph, after a very democratic voting session...thankfully we just did a unit on elections) they WANTED to write about him...you've gotta love that right?

I got an ELF on the Shelf Journal {FREEBIE} from Lauren.  Thanks Lauren!
It is an adorable Elf Journal...we are going to write a little about where he moved each day.

Day 1...

After we wrote about where Joseph was hiding, we spent some time learning about the meaning of Christmas!
I got this Elf Writing pack off Teachers Pay Teachers.  It's great!  Each day the Elf leaves a note and you focus on that important meaning of Christmas (helping others, love, friendship, 17 days of messages in all!)
It's from Kerri B. and its called Magic Elf Activity and Writing Pack.

Aren't their pictures adorable?

We are currently doing a holiday food drive in our class...more to come about that later.
But this is why the kids were focused on the food drive while we were talking about helping others.

And of course one of my little friends couldn't get enough...and wrote in her Reading Response Journal too!  Just click on the pic to make it big!

I finally have some pics to share of my classroom.  I made it through the first week!  I have an amazing class this year.  I'm so excited!  I'm teaching a 2nd and 3rd grade split class and they are all independent and hard workers!  Most of my ideas I found on Pinterest and some of the cute things you see I bought or downloaded free on the Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT) Store.  I linked each one.

This is our super cute new reading nook!  The kids love it and are begging to read!
Great problem right?
Don't you love the lamp? Under $9.00 shade and all at Target!  Woo Hoo!
Here is the link to the FREE (love it, right!?) CAFE sign for Daily 5.

Are all available on the TpT store.  They are too cute!

My welcome bulletin board, "Whooo is in Our Class?"
And some erasers I made for the kids for the first day reminding them that no one is perfect!

And last but not least...our class pet.
Delta.  He is a Male Delta Fancy Fin Beta Fish.
